Before You Purchase Group Health Insurance
It’s admirable that you want to purchase group health insurance for your employees. Most people have a hard time obtaining affordable health insurance unless they get it from their employer.
Before you start getting quotes for group health insurance there is some information that you should have ready. Most group health insurance providers will want general information about the scope of your business. They may also require the age and sex of each employee and if the employees want to include their spouse and children, so they too can have affordable health insurance coverage as well.
Premiums for group health insurance are higher if they include vision and dental coverage. Are your employees interested in vision and dental coverage? Are they willing to pay higher premiums for them? If not, stick to affordable health insurance with just basic coverage.
Even though most Americans do not have access to affordable health insurance expect through their job, many employees still balk at the cost. As a small business owner, you need to decide what percentage of the premiums that you will require your employees to pay. Obviously, the higher percentage they pay, the less you, the business owner, has to pay. You must decide if you are getting group health insurance to keep your employees healthy or are you getting group health insurance as a benefit and considering it part of their compensation. For the latter, you should pay a higher percentage than if you just want them to have affordable health insurance.
